31 Days of Gratitude (Day 28): Five Minute Friday – Eat

coffee-600x600

Happy Friday! Today is Day 28 of #write31days challenge and my 31 Days of Gratitude 2016. I am so close to the finish line of writing for 31 days straight but I’ll admit that I am losing steam with this busy week. But I can stop for a few minutes to participate in Five Minute Friday. The theme this week is EAT.

The rule is to write 5-minutes straight about the topic of the day, more specifically, as the blog states, “This is meant to be a free write, which means: no editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation. Just write.” Okay, setting the timer and go…

Eating is more than just an act of nourishing the body. For me, it is a time to connect with those I love as we share a meal together.

The other day one of my sons asked why he couldn’t eat dinner in his room and watch a movie every night. I told him he was allowed to do that once as a Friday night treat since he and his brothers were having a “sleep over” party but the norm is that we all eat together as a family. Eating dinner together is the chance for the six of us to connect with one another after a long day. We have a tradition that every evening after saying grace, we each share something about our day.

For the younger ones, it is also part show and tell as they have props to share with their stores – the book they got at library that day, the picture they made in art class or the A paper they received. Sometimes, this sharing while we eat is really sweet or causes us all to laugh at a funny story and sometimes Brian and I spend more time getting the boys to take turns and act appropriately at the table but I still think it is worth it.

It’s just a little tradition but it’s important that the kids learn that eating is more than just feeding the body, it is also a time for fellowship and connecting as a family.

STOP.

ThatΒ  one was a little more difficult. I wasn’t sure what to write! LOL.

For the food on our table and the conversation we share, I am truly grateful. πŸ™‚

  • That is a great tradition to have. πŸ™‚ Visiting from FMF #60 I’ve been doing the 31 day challenge as well.

  • Laurel Muff says:

Completely in agreement, Bobbi. Our girls are young, but we ask them at dinner “What was your favorite part of the day?” in an effort to get them to share around the family table with each other about their day.

Great job keeping on your writing streak! I’m cheering you on!! πŸ™‚
