The 31 Day of Writing Challenge continues. Itβs Day 22 of my 31 Days of Gratitude 2015.
I’m linking up with Micaela for Theme Thursday: Same Photos, Different Angles.
* * *
As I mentioned yesterday, I went with Matthew to his class field trip to The Farm in Salinas. Yesterday I was feeling nostalgic and talked about Matthew most likely being my last baby and how I had to let go and surrender to God’s will for our family.
Today I am still grateful for the time I spend with my little guy. He is very much “all boy” and a mama’s boy that loves to be my helper and has not reached the age were he is too big for lots of hugs and kisses. (I am so grateful for that!!)
But today we are also talking about photography since it is time for the Theme Thursday photography challenge. Micaela asked us to play around with light and how different positions change the look of a photograph. The best time to take a photo is when the sun is softer – early morning or sunset but sometimes you have no choice but to take a photo in full sun.
I tried taking a picture of Matthew with the sun behind me. I got a clear shot of the pumpkins but poor Matty was nearly blinded by the light.
I told him to turn around and I then took a photo of him with the sun behind him. The photo was darker and I had to edit it and lighten it up but he has a more natural smile. Maybe if I would have done a few more shots I could have avoided the light and shadow on his face. However, the class was not going to wait for me to finish a long photo shoot!
Either way, he is still my cutie and for that I am very thankful. π

He is cute! And the more natural smile wins. π
Thanks, Mary! Agreed. π
Aw, what adorable shots!! Such a cutie!
Your sentiment reminds me of the feeling I had/have as my boys grew….. my youngest, at almost 13 is the way you describe, still….although I can;t hug him in public ( ! ) . BUT my 15 1/2 yo is past it and ok with a kiss or hug at school even around dozens of ppl…..I wish we could just keep them small!
Thx for sharing Bobbi!
Have a great day!
Thanks, Christine. That is sweet with your sons. I hope my boys are like that when they get older. I don’t know if I’d want to keep them small but I certainly wish I could slow down time because the days are going way too fast!! Thanks for stopping by. π
aww, I love this! That would be fun to take a photo from different angles to see all the differences too. I would love to see the original unedited too, just to see all the raw differences as well. Matthew is so handsome!
Thanks, Laura. That’s a good idea about posting the original. I’ll have to do that more often. π
The hugs and kisses are the best! And with such a handsome fellow to smooch on I don’t blame you one bit!! I am sure he had a great time on his field trip. He looks very proud of his pumpkin.
Thanks, Madeline! He was so proud of his pumpkin. They weren’t allowed to pick one they couldn’t carry themselves. It was a little heavy but he was determined. LOL.
Such a cutie! I love the white undershirt.
Thanks, Elena. Actually the shirt is his PE shirt with the school logo but I blocked it out for privacy. π
So cute. I love his smile.
Midday sun is my enemy. I avoid most photos then, but you’re right, sometimes it’s a must. I’ve found that a side angle is sometimes helpful. Or in the shade (which pumpkin patches really don’t have) but with sunlight behind the subject.
Thanks, Micaela. That’s what I love about Theme Thursday. It is really making me think about these elements instead of just pointing and shooting. π
