Revolution of Love

Revolution of Love

Do small things with great love.

Five Favorites: British Entertainment Edition

I have to admit that I am a bit of a nerd and I was loving catching up with the comic con news and seeing various video clips. I don’t think I’d actually dress up in character, unless it was something like Michonne with my zombie slaying sword. That would be cool if you don’t mind a short, chubby Mexican version. Brian would want to carry a weapon too but since he is more likely to be holding a book than a sword maybe a Sheldon costume would be more appropriate. 😉

When I am not geeking out over things like that I am loving/obsessing over British entertainment such as these.

~ 1 ~

Downton Abbey

There seems to be two categories regarding the BBC/Masterpiece shows Downton Abbey. You either love it or you don’t get what all the fuss is about. I am definitely a love it. If you are too, you’ll also love these.

I haven’t done a Season 4 update since this post but have you seen the new stills from Season 4? Here are a few.

It breaks my heart a little to see Mary and Tom without their better halves.

I’m loving this photo.

Edith is looking sultry.

Oh dear, is this why?

Rose and her current beau.

Jane Austen & Outdoor Movie Nights

Jane Austen is my favorite author (along with Charlotte Bronte) and I love watching all the many adaptations of her stories. I still enjoy watching the old Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet and was excited to see it was one of the summer movies offered at our local “Theater in the Forest.” It is an outdoor theater nestled in a foresty area of downtown Carmel. A couple of my mom friends brought their daughters and together we got cozy under blankets, sipped hot chocolate and passed the popcorn as we watched the movie. It was Bella’s first Jane Austen movie and I was sooo happy to share it with her. 🙂

~ 3 ~
Masterpiece Mystery

Brian and I are also big fans of BBC/Masterpiece Mystery, although some of the stories can be a little grittier for the sensitive viewer. Our fave, hands down, is Sherlock Holmes. I’ve enjoyed Benedict Cumberbatch in previous movies but didn’t become a fangirl until Sherlock.

Then seeing him as Kahn in Star Trek pretty much sealed the deal.

Here’s a video of Freeman and Cumberbatch with a video message to Comic Con participants.

Watch Sherlock’s Martin Freeman & Benedict Cumberbatch; Comic-Con on PBS. See more from Masterpiece.

~ 4 ~

English Actors & The Hobbit

When the Hobbit came out I was pleased that Richard Armitage was to play Thorin since I loved him in North & South. I was equally excited when Martin Freeman/Dr. Watson played Bilbo in the Hobbit. Now Freeman will be reunited with his partner Cumberbatch/Sherlock in the sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the dragon Smaug. Although his physical likeness doesn’t appear, his voice and body movements are used in a similar way as his co-star Andy Serkis’ were used for Gollum. I can’t wait for that one!

~ 5 ~
Peppa Pig

Our British love is rubbing off on the kids because they adore the cartoon Peppa Pig. It cracks me up they can go from having a Star Wars light saber battle to discussing having tea and biscuits during their summer holiday. Yesterday John-Paul was playing store with me and he handed me a coin saying, “Here is one pound, Mummy.” Maybe one day he can teach me the metric system. 😉

7 Quick Takes (7/26/13): Patron Saints, Catholic Fiction & The Walking Dead

~ 1 ~

This is Day 5 of Jen’s 7 Posts in 7 Days Challenge. I am also linking to her weekly 7 Quick Takes. 🙂

~ 2 ~

Happy feast of St. Anne and St. Joachim! St. Anne is my patron saint and my name sake (Bobbi-Ann) so this day has always been a special feast day for me, especially when I was single. St. Anne and Blessed Anne Maria Taigi were the two I asked to intercede for me in finding a holy husband. They did an excellent job. 😉

~ 3 ~

Speaking of St. Anne finding me a man, Grace shared her how-we-met story and put a link-up for people to share their stories as well. My sister posted hers and it is so sweet. E & V are a perfect match! I feel like I have told my how-we-met story so many times that I am like this…

and you’re like this…

But on the off chance that you haven’t read it yet, here’s the link. 😉

~ 4 ~

Brian was telling me about a website that he loves – Catholic Fiction.net. It is a great source for finding out about Catholic novels and since he reads all the time, he is always going through various Catholic fiction books. If only I could get him to do some reviews! Anyway, I was excited to see one of the books I am reading right now featured on there. It is Mysterious Albion (Vatican Vampire Hunters.) So far I am loving it. If I get it done in time I’ll review it for next week’s “What We’re Reading Wednesday” hosted by Jessica.

~ 5 ~

I’ve added Comment Luv to the blog so if you are a blogger and you leave a comment please add your blog link. When you do your latest blog post link will show up under your name. That way I (and others) can visit your blog as well. I especially love to visit the blogs of new visitors. 🙂 Once you’ve typed in your link the first time, it should automatically come up when you visit again.

~ 6 ~

I don’t watch Brittan’s Got Talent but a friend had this clip on her Facebook page and I watched it. Ohmygoodness, it actually brought tears to my eyes. So beautiful! It is worth the watch.

 ~ 7~

Here are two other videos if you are a Walking Dead fan. I binged all week and finally finished season 3 so I’ve got zombies on the brain. The first is the hilarious Walking Dead Bad Lip Reading Video. (Note – Only watch this is you are already a WD fan. Otherwise, skip it.) La-Bibbida-Bibba-Dum 😉

The second is called  Zombie Story: A Mind Blowing Comparison of Toy Story and the Walking Dead. Pretty funny… and coincidental?

Have a great Friday! Thanks to Jen for hosting! 🙂

7 Quick Takes (4/5/13): New Cameras, Star Wars & Anne of Green Gables

Brian just left for work after a week long vacation. I was spoiled having him at home and now I am slightly depressed that he is back at work. Sigh. So to get my mind off of it I am linking up with Jen for 7 Quick Takes while the kids are playing outside. (They don’t return to school until Monday.)

~~ 1 ~~

After two years of waiting and saving I finally got my new camera! So far I had been using my iphone or my old point and shoot camera but I wanted a big girl camera. With the help of my bro Rob (he’s the one that took my main blog banner photo of the bee and red flowers), I finally narrowed down my choices and picked the Nikon 5100. As soon as I got it out of the box (and charged the battery) I started snapping photos of kids in their pajamas and random things around the house. Of course Brian and the kids thought I was crazy but they’ve learned to live with it by now. Here are the first shots I took using the basic autofocus.

~~ 2 ~~

Because I am such a newbie and have so much to learn, I seriously need to read up on some of the basics of photography. (I only recently found out that raw has nothing to do with how to cook a steak.) I know I can go online and read stuff (I’ve been viewing a few You Tube tutorials) but I want a physical book that I can mark with notes and dog ear pages. Any suggestions? Remember the key word is NEWBIE. I’m thinking a “Photography for Dummies” kind of book.

~~ 3 ~~

Speaking of the You Tube, right now the boys are obsessed with Star Wars and particularly Star Wars Legos videos. These two are their current favorites.

~~ 4 ~~

In the evenings Brian and the boys turn off all the lights in the house and take out their glow in the dark light sabers for grand battles. It is hilarious. Meanwhile, Bella and I have our own bonding time after we put the Jedis to bed. She stays up for an extra ½ hour and we watch a movie together while I straighten her hair or fold clothes etc. I recently introduced her to Anne of Green Gables and she was reluctant to watch something so old but she agreed since it was at least in color. (And not the dreaded black and white, or worse, a British period drama like Downton Abbey. Ah, the folly of youth. ;-)) Well, long story short. She fell in love with Anne of Green Gables and dusted off the book set I gave her last Christmas. We’ve gone through Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel and last night we started the old TV show Road to Avonlea. (Was anyone else in love with Gus?)

I know they are also remaking Anne of Green Gables into a 13 part TV series by Breakthrough Entertainment and it was slated to be made in the summer of 2013 but I haven’t heard any other news since last year.

~~ 5 ~~

Speaking of movies, for Easter Brian requested a copy of the movie Milagro De Marcelino Pan Y Vino (2010). It is a remake of the movie the 1955 Miracle of Marcelino. He really loved that 1955 movie, and in fact, when we were trying to decide on a boy’s name while I was pregnant with Andrew, Marcelino was one of the top names on the list. It didn’t make it as a first name but it made it as a second middle name. (All the kids have two middle names.) So our first son’s full name is Andrew Joseph Marcelino. 🙂 Anyway, back to the movie. Here is the synopsis from Amazon:

Friars of a poor war-ravaged monastery find an infant abandoned on their doorstep. Having nowhere to turn in the wake of the war they decide to raise him in the monastery. The child grows into a rambunctious boy fond of playing jokes on the friars with his best friend Eleuterio. Marcelino yearns for a mother as he observes the deep bond Eleuterio shares with his mother. Marcelino’s curiosity leads him to the attic of the monastery: the one place he was warned never go to. While there he is drawn to a statue with a face so full of love that he is compelled to visit it often. Marcelino is too young to realize that it is a statue of Jesus. Thinking the statue looks hungry he sneaks bread and wine into the attic and offers it to the statue. Because of the faith of the child an unexpected miracle occurs.

Brian started watching it and said it was good so far. This weekend, we’ll watch it together after the kids go to sleep (it’s in Spanish with English subtitles so we have to be able to read in peace. 😉 I’ll let you know what I think. In the meantime, here’s the trailer.

~~ 6 ~~

Don’t forget that next week on Tuesday (4/9/13) is the first RoL Pinterest Party Link-Up. You can share a post where you take one of your Pinterest pins and actually make/ create/ cook/ bake it. Not on Pinterest? No problem! Link up your original idea so we can pin it to our boards. It can be a recipe, a craft, a home school project, a themed party etc. Don’t have time to write a post by Tuesday? Feel free to link up an older post of something you’ve already done. It will be a great way to share some of your old posts that haven’t gotten much traffic lately. I hope to see you there!

Oh, and by the way, on Wednesday I shared the two logos I made.

Logo 1

Logo 2

So far the second one has received the most votes. Leave a comment if you want to let me know which you prefer. 🙂

~~ 7 ~~

The kids are coming inside so I better wrap things up. I’ll leave you with one last photo.

Okay, okay kid. I’ll put the camera away. 😉

Mother/Daughter Bonding – This week is we officially began our summer vacation. Bella was out of school last Friday but the boys last day at preschool was Wednesday. That gave Bella and I a couple days to have fun ourselves. It was sweet to have some alone time with her and talk and laugh together. There are so many things about her that I love. I told her I wish a knew her when I was a little kid because she would have been my best friend. She loved the idea of a little mini-me running around as a kid. It made me think of my own relationship with my mom and how we’re mother and daughter but also friends now. I look forward to that kind of future relationship with Bella. I told her that when she gets married I hope she lives close by because I want to be able to see her and babysit my grandchildren! She told me not to worry, she will. I’m relishing this time when she still loves to be around me and doesn’t buck at everything I tell her. That will come far too soon.

Still My Baby Boy – On Friday it was Andrew’s 5th birthday, as seen in this week’s {p, h, f, r}. I was reading through my old pregnancy journal and was reliving the joy and fear of being pregnant again. It took us a year to conceive Bella and after that I had a hard time conceiving and maintaining a pregnancy. It took four years of trying and two miscarriages, until we finally got our little Andrew. Since I already posted my pregnancy journal for Bella, I am typing out some of the entries of Andrew’s, along with his birth story. I’ll hopefully have it ready to post in a day or two.

sherlock_1.jpg

I Am Sher-Locked – With summer vacation here I have been able to stay up late and catch up on my Google reader, emails, and DVR-ed shows. (Brian is a morning bird but I am a night owl!) I have FINALLY cleared out a number of season finales from last month, including some favorites: Once Upon A Time – So now that the curse has been broken, can the residents leave? Do they live their storybook lives or their alter egos? Will Regina be worse than ever now that magic is back? Will Pinocchio turn back into August? Fun! 😉 // Grimm – Will Nick be able to save Juliette? Will the beloved Monroe find a kindred spirit in Rosalee? // Masterpiece Mystery: Sherlock – Brian and I love the Sherlock series and I am going through withdrawl that is just about equal to my Downton Abbey withdrawl. How did Sherlock survive? Did the garage truck play a part? Was Watson knocked down by the bicyclist on purpose? Was the hung dummy at the beginning a clue? Is Moriarty actually dead? So may questions to be answered. I love it!
In the meantime, I have been waiting for the season finale of The Killing ( Do you really think Jamie did it?) and enjoying this season of The Next Food Network Star. Have you been watching? Who is your favorite? When it first started I didn’t have one team that I liked more than the others but I definitely had favorites. My favorite from Alton’s team is also my top pick – Emily. I love her 50’s vibe and retro rad concept. She is still my favorite but last week she was a little annoying. I think they explained it perfectly when they said they wanted her to be authentically quirky and not just a character. My favorite from Giada’s team is Ippy. I like his cool laid back style but I’m not sure if he could take it all the way. I also liked Martita a lot and her Spanish flair but it seems like FN already had the Mexican food niche filled. There is also something about Yvan that I like, and although I don’t think he’d win, I hope he sticks around longer. My favorite on Bobby’s team is Michelle, even though she is a little too Ann Burrell for Brian’s taste.

Summer Reading – During the summer I also have extra time to read. I have two books I am starting this week. The first is Beyond the Birds and the Bees by Gregory Popcak. The second is Maggie Come Lately (The Pathway Collection #1) by Michelle Buckman. I have been enjoying her book Rachel’s Contrition and came across an old interview she did with The National Catholic Register and wanted to read some of her earlier works. I’ll let you know what I think.

Hanging with the Cool Kids – This morning I got an email from my sister telling me that a favorite mom blogger (and photographer extraordinaire) at Colleen’s Green Grass mentioned me in her Quick Takes. She says:

A new favorite blog. You must go check out Bobbi’s Revolution of Love blog if you have not already. This sweet mom of four has been blogging for 9(!) years and I just love her style. She’s smart, funny, honest and inspiring and she blogs about movies, organizing, parenting, books… so many of the things that I love.

Major blush! Thank you, Colleen! You are such a sweetheart. You know, I may sound vain or weird saying this but it has been a pleasing week in blogdom because last week the rock star of blogging (and today’s host) Jennifer Fulwiler “liked” one of my instagram photos and I felt like a tween at a Justin Bieber concert. Then the queen of Sweetness and Style Hallie Lord commented on another instagram photo and said she grew up close to where I live now and that the next time she visits family we should try to get together. Happy dance. Then Colleen says such kind things about me. Wow.
Do you remember the movie My Big, Fat Greek Wedding and the scene where Toula fixes herself up and goes back to college and instead of sitting at the lunch table alone, she goes to sit with the pretty, popular girls at their table? That’s what I feel like. Like I am hitting my blogging stride (it only took nine stinkin years) and now I was invited to sit at the table with the fun, pretty, popular girls. I know, I know. I need to get out more. Sigh.

Chipmunk Cheeks – Now before you start thinking that I am getting a big head or anything, don’t worry. God likes to keep me humble. I did get out the other day and went to Costco. (I’m getting wild in my old age.) As we were leaving, the friendly door man checked our cart and looked at me and then looked at Matthew. He told Matthew, “You’re a happy little guy! And I can see where you get your cheeks from!” Um, thanks…wait. What are you trying to say??

– 7 –

mom_sew_sm.JPG

Mom, The Security Blanket – Speaking of cheeks, all the kids have had a little security soothing habit that entailed me. Instead of sucking their thumb or rubbing their security blanket, they required me. Bella used to sit on my lap and rub my cheeks over and over and over again. Andrew used to sit next to me and rub my upper arm over and over and over again. John-Paul loves to sit next to me on the couch or behind me on a chair and rub my lips over and over and over. So far Matthew hasn’t had any weird quirks unless you count the number of times he likes to lay on top of my feet as I am cooking and he will occasionally bite my toe. I hope it is because of his teething and he isn’t going to have any weird foot fetish or desire to act like a dog. Hmm, maybe I better stop patting him on the head and saying “good boy” when he does something right.
Oh, well. That’s it for my time and to prove this take #7 I leave you with a photo of JP sitting behind me while I am typing. I wish I was more like the fresh-faced mother with her sewing basket as pictured above. Instead you have me, washed out and sweaty from my walk, typing away on the computer with my little monkey on my back. I love that little guy and his cute smile!

Have a great weekend and Happy Father’s Day to all the Papas out there, especially my own daddy and the daddy of my children. Love you both!!

ice_cream.jpg

Good morning! Matthew just fell asleep and the boys are watching Cars 2 and re-enacting scenes from the movie so I have a small window to write before I have to tackle a long list of To Do’s so let’s get going!

I’ll Have A Scoop of Chocolate with Nuts – Remember the car accident I was in a few weeks ago? The lady involved has gone above and beyond to make sure we get our car fixed and that she covers any expenses we incur. She even offered to pay for a babysitter to watch the kids while I have to get the car fixed etc. Thankfully the damage was minimal and the only inconvenience was being without our minivan for 5 days and having to squeeze three car seats in the back seat of the rental, but we survived. Yesterday I got a letter from the lady with a check to cover some last expenses that her insurance didn’t cover. She also enclosed a $50 gift card for Cold Stone Ice Cream for the kids (I assume to ease their emotional distress.) How sweet is that? So thanks, Ms. X! If I had to get hit from behind in the rain, I’m glad it was you. LOL. 🙂

retro_TV.jpg

Toonton Abbey – Yesterday I had to go through my DVR and deleted a bunch of stuff since we were almost full. Even the kids had to go and trim their saved items. For Bella it would be Good Luck Charlie and Austin & Allie, although I let her keep Radio Rebel. For Andrew it’s Team Umi Zoomi and the Octonauts (did I spell those right?) and for JP it is Pocoyo and Max & Ruby. Last night Brian and I only had 45 minutes to watch TV so we caught up with The Middle and Modern Family. My two favorite lines of Modern Family were both by Mitchell. First: “Everybody’s looking at us. I haven’t been judged by this many people since I forgot my canvas bags at Whole Foods.” Hahaha!! The Second: “Okay, it’s Toontown, not Toonton. You’ve been watching too much PBS.” This was funny since I used to think Downton Abbey was Downtown Abbey when it first aired. LOL.

book_less.jpg

Next on the Reading List – I saw a post on Catholic Mom.com last month about a new book called Lessons in the Journey by Patrick Dawson. Despite the fact that Hallie is suspicious of books about women written by a man, I’m going to give it a try since the Kindle edition is only $2.99. I’ll let you know how it goes.

What Kind of Nap Was That? – Unfortunately, Matthew just woke up but he only slept for 15 minutes. I think he has a tooth coming out because he is drooling again like crazy. I picked him up and he fell back asleep in my arms so I’ll just hold him for now. But if you see more typos than usual, forgive me since I’m typing with one hand.

Put to the Test – As I am sitting here I can see that some guys from the C.A. Wastewater District have arrived at our house. They stopped by yesterday to let us know that the neighbor below us (we love on an inclined street) believes that water from our drainage system is leaking into her yard. They said they’d come by tomorrow to test it out and see if there is a fault in our drainage. I certainly hope not. They are running the tests now so we’ll find out one way or another shortly. Oh, wait! The guy’s knocking… Okay, that was timely. He said everything looked fine and the overflow of water is not coming from our house. Phew. (And thanks to the burly teddy bear of a guy for whispering so he wouldn’t wake the sleeping baby in my arms. 🙂

Mama’s Day & Gift – Do you have any special plans for Mother’s Day? I want to do something outdoors so I was thinking either the beach or Point Lobos but if the weather is too cold and windy (since we have runny noses in the house right now) we may stick to a walk where it is a little warmer and maybe pack a picnic lunch as well.
As for a Mother’s Day gift, I just ordered it this morning. (Brian can take a cue from Fred Mertz: ‘What did I give you?.. (cough)… I mean, how do you like what I gave you?”) I have been working on putting together a home management binder but it is taking me forever to first, find the time to work on it and second, figure out what to put in it and third, create the spreadsheets on my computer. I finally gave up and went to my favorite organizing girl Jen at i heart organizing and ordered her Personalized Household Binder “Everything” Printable Kit. I have already used Jen’s printables before (as seen in Operation Clean & Organize) and they are perfect for what I need. I mentioned with my order that this was a mother’s day gift so she rush ordered it and I have the order completed already! I’m so excited. I’ll post about it later!

Congratulations to Laura S. of MS! Your RoL care package will be on it’s way soon.
Now, I must say that John-Paul was upset that he was not able to pick out a winner so I told him that I’d let him choose a name and that person would get a smaller RoL care package. So he picked his name…

con_win_4.JPG

And the winner is…

con_win_5.JPG

LOL! He picked his own aunt, my beloved sis EML. So a smaller care package is on your way too!
That’s it for today. Thanks for all who entered! Have a wonderful weekend!!
