Friday Favorites (Vol. 26)

It has been two years since I’ve touched my old blog and I’m not gonna lie; I miss it! It’s nearly three years since I’ve done a Friday Favorites and I’m feeling nostalgic, so I decided to post a new Friday Favorites. Enjoy!

This Week’s Fave Tote

By Queen & Pearl

Bella and I discovered the company Queen & Pearl at the Blessed Is She retreat in February. The company mission states: “Inspired by the pious queenship and charity of St. Margaret was created to share the Beauty of the Church in order to inspire a lifestyle rooted in faith and of bold femininity.”

We both loved these small corduroy totes that can be held with a small handle or used as a cross-body tote. They are super cute and, costing only $20, affordable. I purchased the red one, while Bella purchased the green one. (The third choice was black.)

They are the perfect size for around town or to carry items for Mass or visiting the Adoration chapel. Check out the totes and their other products. There’s sure to be something you’ll love.

This Week’s Fave Book

A Family Guide to Spiritual Warfare by Kathleen Beckman

In 2023, my word of the year is “fight” because I particularly felt God calling me to study more about (and live a life of) spiritual warfare. I started with Diary of an American Exorcist: Demons, Possession, and the Modern-Day Battle Against Ancient Evil by Msgr. Stephen Rossetti, an excellent read. I had a few spiritual warfare books on my “To Read” list, but was keen to apply it to family life, so I chose A Family Guide to Spiritual Warfare by Kathleen Beckman. I found the book to be informative and useful, especially as a parent. I highly recommend it.

Although, I will say that I purchased books about spiritual warfare and prayer book Prayers of Deliverance a couple years ago, but put them aside. It was just too heavy for me at the time and it’s a topic not be be taken lightly or studied for mere curiosity. My heart was not ready to receive the message. However, this year it is ready and willing to fight in a deeper way.

(Note: MaryRuth Hackett recently interviewed Kathleen Beckman on her podcast Parenting Smarts and they talked about her book A Family Guide to Spiritual Warfare. You can listen to it here.

This Week’s Fave Exorcist Priest on Social Media

Msgr. Stephen Rossetti

As mentioned above, Msgr. Rossetti wrote Diary of an American Exorcist and has done an excellent job of bringing the battle of spiritual warfare to the laity. He has a blog and is on all the major social media platforms. I watch him on Instagram and he discusses various topics and offers monthly online deliverance sessions where you can pray along in your home.

I also use his deliverance prayer app from the St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal daily. I pray the Parent’s Prayer and the Binding Prayer every morning before the kids go to school and the Perimeter Prayer every night. I’ll admit that at first the prayers seemed a little over the top, but I’ve seen a difference in our family, in my prayer life, and living in this world today, we can use all the spiritual protection we can get.

This Week’s Fave Recipe

Greek Pasta Salad

Summer is approaching and this Easy Greek Pasta Salad from SpendwithPennies.com is a perfect pairing for grilled chicken or on it’s own for a veggie option. I used a little more feta and a little less pasta than listed so it would have more of the Greek dressing. Yummy!

This Week’s Fave Planner Accessories

 Pilot Frixion Erasable Pens

Anyone who knows me here also knows that I love the Blessed Is She planners. I prefer to add some color (and stickers) to mine and I’m often asked which are my favorite pens to use

I love to color code in my planner, but I must also have the ability to erase. A few years back I discovered Pilot’s Frixion Erasable pens and fell in love with them. They work great and are easy to erase. I’m never without them! The larger pack have a variety of colors, but they are a little pricey. There are smaller, less expensive packs available too.

Those are my favorites of the week! What have you been enjoying?

Have a great weekend!

Friday Favorites: Coffee and Fall Faves (Vol. 25)

I rarely post on the blog anymore, but I was feeling nostalgic for Friday Favorites. I posted in on Instagram, but I’m including all the links here. Here are this week’s faves. Enjoy!

This Week’s Fave Drink

Catholic Coffee Heavenly Roasts

I’m not a coffee drinker, but Brian is, so I purchased some Catholic Coffee Heavenly Roasts for him. He likes dark roast so he tried St. Michael the Archangel and St. Padre Pio. He loved it!  The saint inspired names and packaging is lovely and would be a great Christmas gift for a coffee lover.

And although, I don’t drink coffee, I bought the beautiful matching prayer cards. 🙂

This Week’s Fave Coffee Mug

Cup of Joe from Reform Wellness

What’s the perfect cup to put your new Catholic coffee? In this Cup of Joe mug from Reform Wellness. Another great Christmas gift idea!

This Week’s Fave Pumpkin Flavored Food

Lightly Spiced Pumpkin Spread from Trader Joe’s

I love Trader Joe’s and always find interesting food there. I’m not a huge pumpkin fan, but I select a few things every fall to get into the seasonal spirit. I tried their Pumpkin Spread and it was very tasty. It is advertised as a compliment to a savory dish. I used it on my wheat toast and it is was okay, but then I added a slice of turkey breast to it, and it was delicious. And the jar is so cute you could pair it with a homemade (or bakery bought) loaf of bread as a hostess gift.

This Week’s Fave Flower

Marigolds

I also stopped at Trader Joe’s today to pick a couple bouquets of marigolds for the feast of All Souls Day. A few years back, we started the family tradition of visiting our local cemetery to pray for the people buried there.

I gave each of the us a small bouquet of marigolds.

Then we’d each choose people to pray for – from soldiers, religious, teens, young children, to ordinary men and women. Some of the kids kept the prayers pretty simple – others brought a book with prayers for the dead.

You can read more about this and how we also build a Catholic version of the ofrenda, which also included marigolds, in my post: How We Celebrate Dia de los Muertos, All Saints’ Day, and All Souls’ Day as a Catholic Family.

This Week’s Fave Catholic Ministry Anniversary

 Feast Day Boxes 3rd Anniversary

We are big fans of the Feast Day Boxes monthly subscription program. Their ministry has really helped us to incorporate liturgical living into our everyday lives. From food to religious items, each box takes us on a journey to another part of the world and opens our eyes to new-to-us Catholic customs. (You can see the reel of items we received in our boxes over the years on my Instagram feed.) Feast Day Boxes celebrated their third anniversary this month and we send them big congrats and thanks!

Those are my favorites of the week! What have you been enjoying?

Have a great weekend!

Friday Favorites (Vol. 24)

I rarely post on the blog anymore, but every once in awhile I get nostalgic and miss it. It has been a busy week with distance learning and I need a few minutes just to myself so I am going to post a Friday Favorites after a year long absence! Here are this weeks faves.

This Week’s Fave Journal

By Beloved and Blessed

Anyone who knows me, also knows that I love putting pen to paper and I’m addicted to blank journals. Even though I didn’t really need another journal, I couldn’t resist this gorgeous hand painted journal created by Malia at Beloved and Blessed. To top it off, it had a favorite quote “Pray, hope, and don’t worry” from one of my saints of the year – Padre Pio. Love it!

This Week’s Fave Album

Holy Water by We the Kingdom

The other day I was scrolling through Instagram and @frtompringle had the song “Don’t Tread on Me” on one of his stories. I loved the song and looked up the band We the Kingdom. In the past, I’d never been a big fan of praise and worship music, but after attending my first Blessed Is She retreat, I was won over! This album has definitely been dominating my praise and worship playlist. Currently, my favorite songs are “Cages,” “Holy Water,” and “God So Loved.”

~ 3 ~

This Week’s Fave Lotion

Ginger Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream from Trader Joe’s

I love Trader Joe’s hand lotions. They are especially great for all the anti-corona virus hand washing I’ve been doing. My hands have been so dry! TJ’s lotions always work really well, but they aren’t too greasy. In spring they had a rose scented lotion. For fall they have a ginger scented hand cream. It has a touch of fall without being overwhelming. I give it two moisturized-thumbs up.

This Week’s Fave Soup

Minestrone Soup purchased at Feast Day Boxes

I love the different foods we receive each month from Feast Day Boxes and I especially loved this quick and easy minestrone soup from Halladay’s Farms. Normally I make our favorite homemade minestrone, but one exceptionally busy afternoon I put this together (in about 10 minutes) and let it cook on the stove.

By the evening we had a surprisingly delicious pot of soup that was perfect for a chilly Fall evening! Now I have a couple of packets in my cabinet ready for the days I need a quick and easy dinner.

This Week’s Fave Planner Accessories

The NEW Planner Stickers from Blessed Is She

Remember, what I said about loving pen and paper? It goes doubly for paper planners and stickers to decorate! I love, love, love these new planner stickers from Blessed Is She. I already added some to my October monthly spread, even though there’s only another week of October left.

I also noticed that the previously sold out Tiny Saint charm of the Blessed Mother and St. Elizabeth/ Visitation are back in stock. I added one to my Blessed Is She planner to remind me to keep the #BISsisterhood in prayer every day.

Those are my favorites of the week! What have you been enjoying?

Have a great weekend!

This Week’s Fave Book

61 Minutes to a Miracle: Fulton Sheen and a True Story of the Impossible by Bonnie L Engstrom

Years back when I first heard about the Bonnie Engstrom and the story of her family, I was fascinated. The story was incredible and I imagined that Bonnie and Travis were ultra holy Catholics who lived a perfectly ordered life filled with prayer and devotion and little mess. It was an image that seemed far removed from the “ordinariness of life.” Years later, Bonnie and I both became part of the Blessed Is She team and we were able to spend time together at the BIS team retreats. (It’s funny how nervous I was to meet her in person!) Bonnie was an incredibly strong woman of faith, but she was far from out of reach. She was one of the most down to earth, personable women I’d ever met and I loved spending time with her.

That’s what makes Bonnie and Travis’s miraculous story so inspiring to me. God was able to weave his grace and light into the fabric of a seemingly ordinary Catholic family and work Biblical wonders – literally raising the dead back to life.  61 Minutes to a Miracle: Fulton Sheen and a True Story of the Impossible is a beautiful narration of the power of God and how miracles are still happening today. Reading it is like peeking into the heart of a women willing to be vulnerable in order to give God greater glory and to inspire us to open our eyes to the spiritual world and the saints waiting to intercede for us. Once I picked up the book, I couldn’t put it down! I highly recommend it!

This Week’s Plush Toy

Shining Light’s Mary Plush Doll

The Shining Light dolls are already adorable, but they’ve kicked it up a notch when they came out with a plush version of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mother Mary. When I saw them I lamented the fact that my kids were too old for plush toys. Well, maybe not. My boys saw them and loved them… not to play with but to add to our prayer shelf. I was more than happy to oblige. (One day I can pass them on to my first grandchild.) 😉 So whether you have a young child or want one for yourself as a decoration, these are so cute!

The Sacred Heart of Jesus plush can be pre-ordered. It will be released in October. And if you get the pre-order sale price you’ll already be ahead in your Christmas shopping. (Let’s face it. Christmas will be here before you know it!)

This Week’s Fave Catholic Tee

Brick House in the City Tees

I’ve bee a fan of Brick House in the City’s Catholic Women’s tees and was excited to see they have newer men’s tees. I bought the Ite Ad Joseph Men’s Tee, which means “Go to Joseph”.

It also has the line “Mirror or Patience – Terror of Demons” (from the litany to Saint Joseph.) Brian loves it! (And I love him in it.) 😉

This Week’s Fave Phone Accessory

Sacred Heart Pop Socket

A few months ago, Megan (who has one of THE BEST looking Instagram feeds!) posted about a new black and white Sacred Heart pop socket she purchased on Amazon. I loved it and wanted to get one as well. However, I chose the colorful Sacred Heart of Jesus Christian Tattoo pop socket. It especially looked great with my yellow phone case. It is a conversation starter! You can find a variety of other cool ones here.

This Week’s Fave Candle

Feast Day Votive Candles

I’m a big fan of Feast Day Boxes but they also have some great stand alone products in their store. One of my favorites is their incense scented votive candles from 5B&Co. I originally bought them to use during our family prayer time, but they smelled so good I have all three sitting on my desk just below my computer screen. The scent just soothes me and calms my spirit, which is great when I am sitting here trying to figure out what to write. I’ll have to order another set of three or one of the larger 8oz candles for our prayer time because I don’t want to relinquish the ones on my desk. 🙂

This Week’s Fave Happy Mail

Photo Credit – Pink Salt Riot

Pink Salt Riot’s Joy Box

I believe I have more than one love language and one of them is definitely gift giving. I love to give a small gift or a card to let a person know I am thinking about them or that they are seen and loved. That is probably why I fell in love with the spirit behind Pink Salt Riot’s Joy Box.

Photo Credit – Pink Salt Riot

Each Joy Box is filled with a collection of their gorgeous products – from prints and note cards to jewelry and accessories. Their challenge is that you give away half of the box to different people in your life that have a moment to celebrate or a moment when they could use a pick me up. What I also love is that the box is quarterly, instead of monthly so it is much more budget friendly. There are also options to purchase monthly, yearly or a stand alone box. Definitely check it out!

This Week’s Fave Sticker

Blessed Is She Saint Stickers

I am a sucker for stickers and I especially love the new round Blessed Mother and Saints stickers from Blessed Is She. The are perfect for your laptop or planner! Which is your favorite? All are great, but I especially love the Joan of Arc one.

Photo credit – Blessed Is She

As an added note, many of you asked when the new Blessed Is She Calendar Year Liturgical Planners (Jan – Dec 2020) would be available. They are now available for pre-order. Added bonus, the are on sale during the pre-order period. (They usually don’t go on sale again after that.) Check out the shop and order the regular size or mini.

~ Friday Favorites Giveaway ~

Okay, now for the extra fun part! I am giving away a bundle of some of this week’s favorites. The box will include a copy of Bonnie’s book, various items from the Pink Salt Riot Joy Box, a sticker from Shining Light Dolls, and I’ll part from one of my coveted Feast Day votive candles. Enter on Instagram. Just look for my giveaway post – @bobbi_rol. Good luck and have fun!

Friday Favorites & Link-up (Vol. 22): Dapper Day Spring 2019 Edition

Happy Friday, friends! Welcome to Friday Favorites. I’m glad you could join me!

This week’s favorites are inspired by my upcoming to trip to Disneyland. Bella and I planned an impromptu mother-daughter trip at the beginning of her spring break.

It lands out that Sunday, April 14 is also Dapper Day at Disneyland. It is a day that celebrates elegant styles from yesterday and today.

There is an expo at Disneyland Hotel and guests of the expo are invited to dress up in their most dapper clothes while visiting the parks. Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m not a dress person, but after reading about the day Bella and I decided to participate. I will dress up in a 50’s style and Bella will be Disneybounding. See my favorites below for details!

Since I have seven faves, I’m also linking up with Kelly for 7 Quick Takes.

This Week’s Fave Activity

Road Tripping to Disneyland

I grew up going to Disneyland with my family and I was excited for the day I could do the same with my own family. For Brian and the boys, one big Disney trip a year is enough for them. However, Bella and I *love* going to Disneyland and once a year is not enough! So we started to take more frequent trips by ourselves.

The last time my mom went to Disneyland with us in Feb 2018

My mom and my sister Jacinta would often join us on these girls weekends and they are some of my favorite memories. This will be my first trip to Disneyland since my mom’s death, so I have conflicting emotions. However, I know she would want nothing more than for Bella and me to have fun and make mother-daughter memories so that’s exactly what I’ll do.

This Week’s Fave Piece of Clothing

Nemidor Vintage 50’s Style Dress

When I searched Amazon for 50’s style dresses, I fell in love with this navy and white dot polka dress. The fact that it came in plus size was the icing on the cake. I tried it on with fingers crossed and I was happy to find that the style was cute and the cut was forgiving. It’s the perfect dress for my first Dapper Day outing.

~ 3 ~

This Week’s Necklace

Jane Stone
Necklace and Earrings Set

I wanted to brighten up the dress so I added some red accessories. Pearls and earrings are a must for a 50’s dress, but the red color is more whimsical that a traditional white.

~ 4 ~

This Week’s Fave Bracelets

Uniklook Chic Urban Stack Bracelets

I didn’t buy these Uniklook bracelets for this outfit, but they were originally purchased on Amazon. I’ll add one or two to my outfit.

~ 5 ~

This Week’s Fave Purse

Purse

Lastly, you can’t have a vintage style dress without a matching vintage style purse. I thought this one from Donalworld would fit the bill perfectly since they matched the red flats I’m wearing. (There is no way I’d wear heels walking all day!)

~ 6 ~

This Week’s Fave Sneak Peek

The Outfit

Okay, there is your sneak peak at all the pieces put together. If you follow me on Instagram, watch my stories for posts while I’m at the Expo and Disneyland. 🙂

Now a preview of Bella’s outfit…

~ 7 ~

This Week’s FaveDisneybound Outfit

Aladdin

At Disneyland, children are allowed to enter the park in a Disney costume. However, teens and adults cannot, unless it’s for their Halloween party. To work around the rule, Disney fans will do what’s called Disneybounding. Basically you wear a normal outfit that is inspired by a favorite Disney character. It has the spirit and feel of the character, without actually being a costume. For Bella, she loves Aladdin so she will wear something similar to this Disneybounding outfit. 🙂

Those are my favorites of the week! What have you been enjoying?

Have a great weekend!
