This Week’s Fave Fall Preview

Fall Colored Flowers

Yesterday, I went to our local farmers market and I couldn’t resist bringing home some fall colored flowers. I love they way they brighten the room and make it feel like my favorite season.

This Week’s Fave Activity

Morning Beach Walks

I haven’t been on my morning beach walks for almost a month, but the other day I was just feeling overwhelmed with stress and tough things happening in life and I needed to get away. This is my favorite spot to take a deep breath and center myself back on God. You can’t help but take one look at the mighty power and vastness of the ocean and think – the God who made that it certainly able to get me though whatever problems I have right now. Balance restored. Plus, living near the coast, our summers are usually gray and foggy. Once September arrives the fog is lifted and we have sunny days again.

This Week’s Fave Listen

Rosary Army’s Audio Rosary

One of my goals this month was to more often turn off the TV or music playlist and pray the rosary instead. Sometimes, I pray in our local chapel and sometimes I pray while I’m doing laundry and dishes. When I can’t keep track of the rosary, I like to listen to an audio rosary. The old one I used to listen to no longer works so I was looking for a new version. I was excited to find the Rosary Army App. I’ve long been fans of Greg and Jennifer Willits and their work with the Rosary Army. I tried their rosary app and love it. All the mysteries are available. There is a page with the prayers in writing – I use this during our school rosary group for those parents who are unfamiliar with all the prayers. There’s even a page with pictures of the mystery for visual inspiration. It’s great and I use quite often.

This Week’s Fave Accessory

Marian Bandana from Be A Heart

Anyone familiar with Blessed Is She, most likely is also familiar of the beautiful artwork of Erica Tighe. She designed the amazing planners, journals, prints and more. She has a company called Be A Heart and she is selling these adorable Marian Bandanas. It is made of 100% cotton and is 22in x 22in.

And if you know me, you also know that I wear bandanas as scarves in my hair all the time. I got one for my bday and I love it! It can be used as a scarf, kerchief or handbag tie, to name a few ideas.Get one before they sell out. ๐Ÿ™‚

This Week’s Fave Bracelets

RosaryCreation.com Bracelet

Speaking of my birthday, when Brian asked me what I wanted, I told him that I’d love a “gift card” to purchase something at the SCRC Conference we were attending the following week.

One of my favorite vendors table was from RosaryCreation.com who sold beautiful items such as rosaries and jewelry.

I love beaded bracelets and bought these three – a navy, a multicolored and a double wrap pink one.ย  I’m thinking of special ordering the multicolored beads in a double wrap bracelet. They’re so pretty!

This Week’s Fave Netflix Binge

Kim’s Convenience

The other day I was looking for a new comedy that I could binge watch as I did housework (after my rosary ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). I found Kim’s Convenience and thought it not only hilarious but heartfelt. Netflix describes it as such: “While running a convenience store in Toronto, members of a Korean-Canadian family deal with customers, each other and the evolving world around them.” There is some TV-14 humor, but nothing explicit. It’s a lot of fun.

This Week’s Fave Weekend Activity

Movie Date with My Son

With four kids, we often enjoying doing things as a family but just as I need time alone with Brian, I think it’s good for the kids to have time alone with me. It can be as simple as going to the market together or taking a walk. It’s easier to do that with my younger boys, but as my oldest boy enters the pre-teen years, it’s a little more challenging. When I saw the preview for Alpha, I knew this would be a movie Andrew would enjoy and being rated PG-13, it was something we could do without his brothers. So this afternoon, we’ll be having some mom and son bonding over popcorn, peanut M&M’s and movie viewing.

Okay, that’s it for now!

Those are my favorites of the week! What have you been enjoying?

Have a great weekend!

This Week’s Fave Gift for a Sports Fan

Fanchest Curated Gift Boxes

Brian is a big Green Bay Packers fan so for his birthday I got him a Fanchest curated gift box. It was a big hit with Brian, and actually all the boys. To add to the fun, the box had a golden ticket and Brian won $150 worth of free Packer merchandise! Score!

This Week’s Fave Recipe

Greek Marinated Chicken

Last week I went to the farmer’s market and picked up some of our favorite homemade pita chips and hummus from the Hummus Heaven guys. I searched Pinterest for a Greek marinade for the chicken we were having for dinner and tried a marinade from Aunt Bee’s Recipes.ย I didn’t have time to marinate the chicken overnight but managed 5 hours. That evening I dusted off our indoor grill and cooked the chicken and it tasted as good as it smelled! It was a hit! This recipe is going on our regular meal rotation.

This Week’s Fave Movie

Crazy Rich Asians

I’m a big fan of a rom com movie but it’s been awhile since I’ve seen one that I really loved. That changed on Wednesday night when I went to go see Crazy, Rich Asians. It was sweet and cute but also had depth, dealing with issues of race, class and self worth. Visually the movie was stunning, the actors (male and female) were gorgeous, the music fun and some of the comedy wasย  literally LOL. The level of “crazy rich” was almost unbelievable (especially when you consider the rest of the population in Singapore) but it also served as a “character” in the movie. I really enjoyed it!

~ 4 ~

This Week’s Fave Book

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Normally, when there is a movie based on a book, I read the book first. I broke that rule with Crazy, Rich Asians and am reading the book now. So far I am also loving it and the added insight into the movie.

This Week’s Fave Activity

Girls’ Night Out

It is so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, and although I often crave the company of other females, I admit it is usually at the bottom of my priority list. Add that to the fact that by 9:00 PM, I am ready to hit the couch with my pj’s and Netflix. As a result, I don’t have many girls’ nights out. However, with the start of our local Blessed Is She group, I now have a group of ladies (granted, I’m the mom figure of the group) to spend quality time with. It is a blessing to find friends that are both fun and women of God who freely share about their faith, joys and struggles. This particular night, one of the Blessed Is She Team Writers was in town so I was especially excited to see Samantha and her cute baby bump again. Cheers to the power of sisterhood.

This Week’s Fave Catholic Item

ย Talavera Holy Water Fonts

A friend of mine is moving away to another state. I wanted to get her something for her new home that would remind her of our city and the Mission. So I picked up this pretty Talavera holy water font. I loved it so much, I bought two so I could replace our old water font. I love the colors and hung it on the wall by our front door. We use it to bless ourselves before leaving the house each morning. I love it. I tried to find a link to buy them and they are available at Amazon, but the shipping is pricey.

This Week’s Fave New Food

Dumplings

Summer is winding down and the boys and I have been enjoying our movie nights while they last. We had a Kung Fu Panda marathon and over the week finished the three movies. They were curious about what dumplings tasted like since they’ve never tried them. To be honest, I’m not sure what’s the difference between dumplings, won tons and pot stickers, which I use in my won ton soup. However, they wanted to try the round dumplings seen in the movies. We happened to be in Costco yesterday and we found Bibigo Steamed Dumplings on sale. Two of my three little guys are picky eaters (the youngest loves almost anything!) so I wasn’t sure how they’d like them but they were a big hit. However, we didn’t care for the sauce that came in the package. I still have enough dumplings for another meal but would like to make my own dipping sauce. Any suggestions for favorite recipes? Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to make my own dumplings but for now, let’s start with the sauce. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okay, that’s it for now!

Those are my favorites of the week! What have you been enjoying?

Have a great weekend!

Grateful for…

  • Brian’s test results last week. (No signs of cancer.)
  • My mom’s procedure went well and now she can take the next step towards chemo.
  • Online community love.
  • Date nights.
  • Family time.
  • Casual days of summer.

Praying for..

  • My mom’s health and upcoming cancer treatment.
  • Those fighting cancer, illness and mental health issues.
  • Many special intentions from family and friends, especially those carrying heavy crosses.
  • For an end to the fires in CA, for the firefighters, and the people who have lost their homes.
  • For the poor, oppressed and refugees.
  • All pregnant moms (especially family members), those trying to get pregnant, those who have lost their babies and for moms contemplating an abortion.
  • The souls in purgatory, especially family, friends and those most forgotten.

Pondering…

Recently, I (and the rest of the Blessed Is She Team) started making Holy Hours on Mondays. Frankly, I thought it was a great idea in theory but at the same time, I was thinking, “How am I going to keep myself quiet and focused for a WHOLE hour?”ย  I am used to making quick 10 minute visits or even a a Holy Half-Hour when I am feeling ambitious, but an hour. I went into the chapel and started praying for the long litany of concerns on my heart and prayer intentions from friends.

Then I looked up to the Tabernacle and felt Jesus asking me to just be quiet for a moment…to rest my head on His shoulder and enjoy his presence. As I sat there I felt Him speak to my heart that, yes, I have work to do for Him but that I needed to stop and be with Him first. I needed to fill my own soul first then I would have the strength and wisdom to deal with whatever faced me that day. It’s not like I wasn’t praying before but I feel like it’s time to step it up and reach a little deeper and try a little harder. Maybe God is asking the same of you. We’re all spiritually growing and maturing. How can you step closer to God today?

Family Chit Chat…

Mom/Dolores update – My mom completed the medical procedures she needed and is out of the hospital. She went to her chemo intro class and gets her radiation tattoo on Aug 15 and then starts treatment the following week. Thanks for your continued prayers, especially those who signed up for Rosaries for Dolores. Every week I give my mom a list of the people praying for her and she prays for you on your day. (You can still sign up to pray a rosary for my mom. Her chemo will go into September. It would be great to let her know that people are still praying past the end of the 54 day novena. In return, she and I will be praying for you on your day.)

The rest of the family is dealing with the worry about mom. Personally, I am just keeping myself busy and making memories with my kids because life is short.

Getting back into the school routine is going to speed up time even more. Bella starts next week and the boys start at the end of the month.

July Memories…

Swim lessons. //ย  The summer Pixar Movie watching fest continues. // Mom and kids outings. // We attended the Family Concert at the Carmel Bach Festival with the kids’ Oma. //We celebrated the feast day of my patron saint. (St. Anne) // I leaned heavily on God as I waited for Brian’s test results (no cancer!) and worried about mom’s health issues/cancer. #cancersucks // Enjoyed watching Brian play football l with the boys. // Summer beach parties. // Counting my blessings, especially this guy.

Cooking…

I am a big fan of lemon chicken and have been trying to find a recipe that I love. I’ve tried a few and while, good, they haven’t “hit the spot.” Do you have a fave lemon chicken recipe? If so, please share it with me! The next one I am going to try is this one pot recipe.

Watching…

(ON TV)

After the kids are in bed and sleeping, we’re finishing up Luke Cage, Endeavor and The Tunnel. All of these (some more than others) are dark and heavy so Brian and I also need something lighter in tone. We are also working through Brooklyn 99 and rewatching Psych.

Next month Poldark starts but I still have Season 3 sitting in my DVR. I was so annoyed with the whole Poldark/ Elizabeth story line that I lost interest. Should I pick it back up again?

I’m super excited to watch this tonight!

(MOVIES)

Christopher Robin – The movie was super sweet and warm hearted. The first half is a little slow for younger viewers and there are a few scarier moments for the youngest viewers (WWII battle scene, a parent dies and there is a nightmare.) For older kids or adults who grew up with Winnie the Pooh, it is very nostalgic and the theme of family and not losing your sense of wonder is touching. I really enjoyed it. Rated PG for some action. Get a full review from Common Sense Media.

Ant-Man and the Wasp – The movie was fun and we all enjoyed it. The action and tone were more lighthearted compared to the Avengers: Infinity War. There is some language and violence but if your kids have seen other Marvel movies, they should be fine. Rated PG-13 for some sci-fi action violence. Get a full review from Common Sense Media.

This Week’s Fave Body Wash for Guys/Boys

Everyone soap

When Brian first got cancer years back, we switched from our traditional soaps to brands that were phthalate free and plant based. Brian didn’t want anything too flowery smelling so I got him the Everyone Soap for Every Man in the cedar and citrus fragrance. He loved it and since it can be used as body wash and shampoo, it’s one less product I have to buy. Personally, I love the way he smells. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Plus, now that the boys are getting older (and let’s face it, smelling of stronger boy sweat) I’m ready to switch them over to the soap as well.

This Week’s Fave Catholic/Christian (& Pop Culture) Books for Kids

I love books that engage kids with something fun that they love (ie Legos and Minecraft) and teach them something valuable at the same time. I bought these two books for my boys (ages 11, 9 & 7) and they love them. I love that they are learning about God and their faith.

Catechism of the Seven Sacraments (Lego Style) by Mary O’Neill Kevin O’Neill

Back of Book Description:

Join your friendly guides Fulton and Cynthia on a biblical adventure as they journey from creation to salvation and discover the importance of Godโ€™s sanctifying grace. Set in a vivid comic-book format with stunning photographs, this book makes profound theological concepts accessible to both the Catholic and the curious, the child and the adult. Following Pope Emeritus Benedict XVIโ€™s teachings on Covenant Theology, this book sheds light on the parallels between the Old Testament and the New Testament and the sacraments instituted by Christ that we experience today. Readers will develop a deeper understanding of salvation history, discover how to participate in Godโ€™s covenant, and learn how to obtain grace through the sacraments, which are essential on our lifelong journey to the Eternal Promised Land.

This Week’s Fave Quiet Time Activity

x

Letter Writing

I have always loved writing and receiving snail mail but seriously, who’s got the time? However, I just finished reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which I loved, and the entire book is a collection of letters and correspondence. It stirred up such a longing to write a letter that I dusted off a few old pen pal addresses and wrote some letters and notes.

~ 4 ~

This Week’s Fave Back to School Activity

School Supply Shopping

I always loved back to school shopping as a kid and that love has never gone away. I took the kids to get their supplies and is it just me or do those lists get longer every year?! We’ll be eating all the meals in our freezer to help pay for it. It probably didn’t help that I had a few back to school purchases as well. (I knew I should have stayed away from that Staples clearance shelf.) As for the movie, I mostly do digitals but I got the Blu-ray since A Quiet Place was one of my top faves of 2018. And the dark chocolate? No explanation needed.

This Week’s Fave Local Find

Sharp Corners Sports Card Shop

My 11 year old has been collecting football cards for a couple years. He kept asking me if they had any card shops and I told him I didn’t think they had sport card shops anymore, except in the larger cities like LA or San Francisco. I was curious and googled it and was surprised to find out there was a card shop right here in Monterey. We visited the shop and the owner was really friendly and loved to chat. He said there were only around 250 (I think that was the number) card shops left in the US. Luckily, he’s been in business for over 20 years and he knows his stuff. He asked Andrew who his favorite teams were (the Packers and the Chargers) and he helped him find the cards he was looking for and gave him advice about how to buy the best packs. Andrew was ecstatic and that made my mama heart very happy. ๐Ÿ™‚

This Week’s Fave Emotional Support

Family, Friends and our Online Community

It has been a stressful month. First there is the ever present worry about my mom’s cancer and some health setbacks she had this week. Now Brian is due for his yearly cancer testing/scan, so I’m naturally worried that his cancer doesn’t come back. Plus, it seems like so many little things are going wrong that in themselves are minor, but all at once are a pain.

Thankfully, I am surrounded by prayerful and supportive family, friends, as well as an online community, that is constantly supporting my mom, my family and me. My mom was deeply moved when I told her how many people have messaged me that they are praying for her and offering rosaries orย  Masses for her. And this isn’t just immediate family or friends we know, but people who follow me on social media and have gotten to know about me and my family online.

I have gotten numerous messages that started out with “you don’t know me but…” It brings tears to my eyes just typing that. It is so beautiful that there is this community and sisterhood of believers ready to support one another and pray for one another, even if we don’t know each other in real life. The joy that knowledge brings is a tiny foretaste of heaven and the Body of Christ loving one another as brothers and sisters. I love it.

And that support has allowed my next fave…

This Week’s Fave Make Me Smile Moments

Time with Family

The prayers of everyone has just filled my heart with the boost I need to be strong, trust in God and look for the joy amidst the worry. It allows me to cherish the moments I have with my family and to make memories together because life is short and precious.

This Week’s Fave Evening Entertainment

Pixar Movie Fest

Speaking of family time, Bella may have inherited my love of Disneyland but the boys inherited my love of movies. This summer, after our evening family prayer, we cuddle on the couch to watch (part of) a movie together. We have been working through the Pixar Collection. I logged the ones we’ve competed in my bullet journal. Tonight we’ll finish Finding Dory. ๐Ÿ™‚

This Week’s Fave Catholic Bracelets

My Saint, My Hero

Long before John Stamos got into the picture, I have admired the lovely bracelets of My Saint, My Hero. I first purchased the Forever One Mr & Mrs Blessings Bracelets to share with Brian and the Wave of Prayer bracelet in aqua. (Although, I think that color is no longer available.) When I went to the Blessed Is She Wild Retreat, I received the “Breathe” bracelet, which was very appropriate because I was stressing out big time that day. LOL.

I love the mission of My Saint, My Hero. It is “to bring faith, hope and purpose into everyday life.” They promote the fact that “God is real, prayer works and love heals.” Plus their products are “wearable blessings, crafted in love and prayer and empower women through meaningful work.” Their hope and “prayer is that these pieces help awaken souls to live in the presence of God and know: ‘I am true. I am good, I am beautiful. I am blessed.'” How awesome is that?

Since my birthday is next month, I am adding either the Empower Seed of Life Bracelet or the Stellar Blessings Ocean Blessings Bracelet to my wish list. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This Week’s Fave Music Playlists

My mom asked me to make her a playlist of inspirational music that will motivate her to fight her cancer. I made this “I Can Do It” playlist for her. To be honest, I have been listening to it frequently this week! Above is the Spotify link. Or if you use Apple Music, as I do, here is that link – https://itunes.apple.com/us/playlist/i-can-do-this/pl.u-WabZZkAfmgVjv.

When my mom is not in the mood to fight and she just needs to cry out to God for strength, I made her this “Jesus, I Need You & Praise Music” playlist. Above is the Spotify link. The Apple Music link is – https://itunes.apple.com/us/playlist/jesus-i-need-you-praise/pl.u-NpXmmr3IB5XPp

This Week’s Fave Summer Top

Old Navy’s Relaxed Bubble Sleeve Tops

Old Navy is a great place to find casual clothes whether you are the mom or the daughter. Bella found some cute tops and shorts (with the coveted 5″ inseam instead of the standard skimpy 1-2″) in her small size and I found these cute tops in a larger size (they have up to XXL in the store.) These tops are summery and can be worn off the shoulder or, as I opt, on the shoulder. I have the navy stripe and the white one pictured above. This Week’s Fave Social Media/Blog Award

A Knotted Life’s Sheenazing Awards

Way back when blogs were actually a common thing, Bonnie at A Knotted Life started the Sheenazing Awards to promote readers’ favorite Catholic Blogs. These days, there aren’t as many bloggers but (almost) everyone is on social media. Bonnie is bringing back the Awards to promote the best in Catholic social media –ย  from bloggers, vloggers, instagrammers, podcasters and more.

I loved voting for my faves and finding new favorites when the results were posted. Click over to A Knotted Life and cast your vote by Saturday, July 21. So fun!

Okay, that’s it for now!

Those are my favorites of the week! What have you been enjoying?

Have a great weekend!

PS – You can follow RoL on Bloglovin, Feedly or another news feed. If you are a social media fan like me, we can stay in touch through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, GoodReads, Letterboxd, or Spotify. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Are you ready to link up?? Here are the rules.

1. Create a post with your Friday Favorites.

2. Add a link back here so others can play along.

3. If you want to add the logo to your post, here is the html.

<p style=”text-align: center;”><img class=”aligncenter wp-image-10649″ src=”http://revolutionoflove.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/fri_fave_logo_640.jpg” alt=”” width=”500″ height=”500″ /></p>

4. Make sure youโ€™re sending us to your actual post, and not to your general blog address. The link-up will be open for three weeks. Have fun!
