When the news came out about the horrific clergy abuse in PA, my heart was broken, angry and perplexed at what I could do. Later I went to the chapel to pray and there were no words. I just kept picturing Jesus and the Agony in the Garden and the pain this is causing His Sacred Heart.
Although I have not experienced this kind of abuse, one of my best friends was betrayed and sexually abused by someone we both loved, and I saw the devastating effect it had on her. I walked with her when she was her most broken and witnessed her fight and walk the road to recovery and healing. My heart is broken for the victims who have to travel that same road. And my mama bear heart is righteously angry at the thought of so much innocence robbed, and I want to see justice done to the perpetrators and reform put into place so no one ever has to suffer this pain again.
There are numerous groups of people rising up to prayer and action and for now I am joining Kendra at Catholic All Year and Bonnie at A Knotted Life to spend the next 40 days in prayer and reparation for the intentions of consoling the Sacred Heart, healing for the victims, for the guilty be brought to justice and reform enacted so this does not happen again. Along with my prayer, I will participate in actions to help foster these intentions.Ā I hope you will pray and act too. (See the link below for ideas.)
Lastly, I know some of you who are reading this have been abused yourself and the news has triggered the trauma of reliving it. I am especially praying for you too. If you’d like me to pray for you by name, feel free to email (rol at revolutionoflove.com) or message me on social media. (You can find me at all the usual places as bobbi_rol.
