{pretty, happy, funny, real} vol 72 & Theme Thursday: Statues

It’s another photo mash-up today as I link up with Like Mother, Like Daughter with {pretty, happy, funny, real} and with Cari for Theme Thursday: Statues . (Check out {pretty} for that one. :-))

{pretty}

The altar at the Carmel Mission has numerous statues, all which have been recently cleaned and restored.

A sweet friend gave me this statue when I was pregnant with John-Paul. Since then I have kept it on our home altar as a reminder to keep in prayer all the pregnant mamas out there (and for the spiritual mamas who nurture God’s children.)

{happy}

I love how kids can find the simplest things to keep them amused. Here Andrew is proudly sporting his mustache.

John-Paul started off happy but then he got upset that his ‘stache wouldn’t stay on his face. šŸ˜‰

{funny}

John-Paul is definitely a chip of the old block. Like his father, he always has a book in his hands. The other day I told him he had to go outside and get some fresh air. I thought he’d ride bikes with his brothers but instead he sat on the floor and read his book. I guess, technically, he did do as he was told. šŸ˜‰

{real}

I was getting tired of all my boys sporting messy 70’s hair so I gave them all haircuts. Remember my little guy from last week?

Well, he got his first short big boy haircut.

He was very proud of his “After” look. šŸ™‚

***

This is a last minute add-on photo.

My statue from the {pretty} photo was the victim of boyhood exuberance. sigh. Having kids definitely teaches you how to have a healthy detachment from material possessions. Luckily some crazy glue repaired our ladies, even though they still have a few war wounds. Oh well. (And if you think I sound a little too calm it’s because I already blew my top and cooled off before typing this. ;-))

    I love those statues! We have the nativity set. Sorry your boys’ energy was “misdirected”… our little girl is only four months old and I’m already terrified of her becoming mobile!

    Oh, man, you and me both on the destruction of Willow Tree figurines! But, you’re right; helps practice detachment! šŸ™‚

    “healthy detachment from material possession” I’m going to have to remember that. I’ve had only one freak out crying hysterically moment from something breaking, but surprising it was my husband that was the culprit. I think I always expect it from the kids, but when he did it I just flipped. I think him seeing my reaction scared him. lol I can laugh now because I fixed it with superglue.

      Hi Natalie, I remember having a complete meltdown over something that really wasn’t that big of a deal but I was pregnant at the time so I am chalking it up to hormones and not as a defect in my nature. šŸ˜‰ Thanks for stopping by!

  • Kate says:

    Oh, boys. I’ll admit I was not very good with “detatchment” when mine pulled apart my Rosary. I hate to have to practice but I suppose it’s good for us, right? At least I can say that after calming down (I totally blew my top over it when it happened too.)

      Hi Kate, I keep telling myself it is good for me but it sure doesn’t make it any easier!! I always blow my top but I think my recovery time is getting shorter so I’ll count that as a good thing. šŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by!

    Will you take me to that Carmel Mission the next time I visit Cali? And then we can go out to Brunch and drink Mimosas! Yes? Yes. šŸ™‚

  • Micaela @ California to Korea says:

    Oh, the “pretty” is just breathtaking. And then you made me laugh so hard with your “real” photo. Man, these kids sure know how to destroy things, don’t they? Say it with me: “And this is why we can’t have nice things.” šŸ˜‰

    The Carmel Mission is on my list of places to visit one of these days. My icons are all from San Juan Capistrano and I’ve been to some of the other missions in northern California.

    Beautiful boys
