{pretty, happy, funny, real} vol. 84 & Theme Thursday: Dirt

I didn’t quite finish my second Lent post so for the time being I’m doing a quick photo mash-up as I link up with Cari for Theme Thursday: Dirt (refer to {pretty}) and Like Mother, Like Daughter for {pretty, happy, funny, real}. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably already seen most of these but for family not on Instagram, these are more for you. ๐Ÿ˜‰

{pretty}

I’m linking this photo with Theme Thursday: Dirt.

ย Bella has been working on a science project this week and it was perfect for the theme of dirt.

New buds are starting to sprout through the dirt.

A week later, she had this.

There are signs of spring everywhere. The trees are growing leaves and flowers are beginning to bloom.

Including these on a neighbor’s tree. So pretty.

{happy}

I was happy to be able to go to Mass yesterday with my sweeties.

{funny}

It was funny to see this thing on the road the other day. Bella and I were a little freaked that it was going to tip over. The girls chatting in there didn’t seem too concerned.

I was at Whole Foods and saw this escargot for sale. (I tried not to gag.) When I came home I had to watch the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy has lunch in a French cafe. ๐Ÿ˜‰

{real}

I’m participating in the Holy Lensphoto challenge from Surviving Our Blessings.com. Every day from Ash Wednesday up to Easter Sunday, they provide a prompt based on the daily lectionary scripture readings.

Yesterday’s topic was “fast.” (And I’m really tempted to saty up until midnight so I can eat that peanut butter and jelly sandwich I’ve been craving all day!)ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Happy Thursday. ๐Ÿ™‚

7 Quick Takes (2/21/14) and Theme Thursday: Dishes

I’m linking up with Jen for today’s 7 Quick Takes. ๐Ÿ™‚

AND I’m linking up with Cari for Theme Thursday: Dishes. (Scroll down to #5 for that one. ) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mama Time – Aw, it is that magic time of the evening – 7:30 PM. We finally have our bedtime routine down pat so by 7:30 all the boys are tucked in bed with the lights out and Bella is reading quietly in her room. Andrew and John-Paul sleep in the same room and Matthew, like all the little guys did, sleeps in our room until he turns three. (Then he graduates with the big boys.) I turn off the lights and stay in the room with Matthew until he falls asleep, which takes anywhere from 5-15 minutes. In the dark, stillness of the room I either read or turn on my laptop and start typing (or browsing) for the next hour while Brian showers and prepares for the next day. Then we meet back in the family room at 8:30 to spend time together, chat and watch a show or movie. As much as I love my life as a mom, I relish this quiet time to relax after a hard day and unwind.

~ 2 ~

Tender-hearted Wrestlers – It’s funny how the boys can drive me up the wall with their antics and constant NOISE but this evening as I passed their room, I saw Andrew helping John-Paul button up his pajama top. It was so sweet to watch them working together. It reminded me of earlier in the day when Matthew’s toy broke and John-Paul said, “Don’t worry, Matty. You can play with my toy instead,” and he gave it to him. It melted my heart. So although most of the time they are jumping around and wrestling each other (and with his shirt off, Matthew has the physique of Nachooooooo) it’s nice to get those tender moments that reveal their sweet nature and loving hearts.

~ 3~

Brian Update – A big thanks for your continued prayers for Brian. He is recovering well from his surgery and will be able to go back to work in another week. Although on Tuesday he will have outpatient surgery to put a port into his chest for his upcoming chemo. I googled it to see what it looked like and it was not pretty. Let’s hope it’s better than I am imagining. The whole situation is weird because he seems back to normal (besides all the weight he’s lost) and at times I forget about this whole mess but then I remember that the cancer is still inside him. I worry that it is growing while he is recovering from his surgery. But I do my best to put those thoughts aside and ask God to grant us a miracle and banish the cancer from his body. Until then, we keep fighting.

Speaking of my sweet man, he is ready to relax and watch a movie with me so I’ll finish this in the morning. Have a good night! ๐Ÿ™‚

Good morning. I only have a few minutes to finish this so I’ll try to get it done quickly. ๐Ÿ™‚

Jen Throws Down A Challenge – My fingers will be busy next week since Jen is hosting another blogging challenge of 7 Posts in 7 Days. It was a lot of fun the last time and I’ll see if I’ll be able to make it through next week. I have enough favorite link ups to inspire me each day of the week! ๐Ÿ˜‰

~ 5 ~

One of those favorite link-ups is Cari’s Theme Thursday, even though I am a day late for this week’s challenge of DISHES. I thought I could snap an easy pic of the dirty dishes sitting on the sink but I have a sneaky feeling some of you have a load of your own dirty dishes waiting for you. ๐Ÿ™‚ Instead I am submitting this photo I took of the banana oatmeal honey cookies (no sugar) that I got from my sister. I’ll most likely post the recipe on Tuesday’s Pinterest Party, unless my sis asks me not to because she wants to post the recipe. What say you, sis?

When Brian and I moved into our first real home (not longer renting an apartment) we decorated in a sort of Spanish Mission style. I found these red dishes at Costco and fell in love with them. (I’m not a dainty dish girl. I am a sturdy stock girl.) ๐Ÿ™‚

~ 6 ~

Mamarazzi – Spaking of photos, I’ve been having fun participating in theย  SlowMama Photography Challenge on Instagram. Instead of having a topic each day, we only have to take one photo a day for the month of February. So far I haven’t missed a day. For those of you that don’t follow me on Instagram (bobbi_rol), like you, Mom, ๐Ÿ˜‰ here are some shots I took with my iphone in the past week.

ย Taken at the Carmel Mission. This reminds me of a page out of yesteryear.

After we drop off John-Paul at preschool, Matthew always asks if we can “go see Dedus” (go see Jesus). I’m happy to make a visit to the Adoration chapel with him. I love to see him “praying.” He reminds me of his Daddy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Time for whole grain blueberry pancakes.

Taken the other day during one of our morning walks along the beach.

Matthew is enjoying the scenery.

During this time of year you can catch a lot of harbor seals along the beach.

It is fascinating to watch them waddle along the sand or jump into the water.

ย If you are one of my snow bound friends, I pray that the sun shines on your face and spring reaches you very soon!

~ 7 ~

Have you ever been on instagram and wanted to pin a photo to Pinterest or repost a photo that you loved? There are a few online sites that can do that but my favorite is Statigr.am. They also have a lot of cool stats about your photos. For example, these are my top five liked photos.

Okay, my time is up but I’ll be back soon for 7 Post in 7 Days. Have a blessed Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚

“2013 in 13” AND “13 for 13”: My Favorite Photos of 2013

ย

On this last day of 2013, I am linking up with Dwija at House Unseen for 2013 in 13 AND with Pam from Everyday Snapshots for 13 for 13. Here is a collection of my favorite photos from 2013, plus an extra photo as a bonus. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Narrowing down the photos was a difficult choice since I snapped over 3,000 shots!! Well, I did my best to narrow it down. Enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚

This photo was shot with my iphone as dusk approached on a difficult January evening. I was at our local hospital where Brian was recovering from surgery to remove cancer from his body. It was so hard to kiss him goodnight and leave him alone in his hospital bed. Before driving back home to the kids,ย  I stopped in the lobby to compose myself. I did not want them to see me upset. I sat there and listened to the water fall and watched the evening sky darken andย  give way to the moon and twinkling stars. It soothed my soul. No matter how dark it got that night, I knew the stars and the moon would still be there to give light and hope. The sun would shine once again… and in the same way, we’d get through this period and be happy once again. And we did. Blessed be God. ๐Ÿ™‚

* * *

It is sometimes easy to complain about the warm winter weather when you wish you could wear a coat and mittens instead of shorts and a t-shirt but then when people are talking about being depressed by the gloomy weather in February, I can enjoy this. ๐Ÿ™‚

* * *

When I first married Brian I told him that we needed to start having kids right away because our house was too darn quiet. (Remember, I was used to having 5 brothers and 3 sisters.) We may have had to carry a few crosses of secondary infertility and miscarriage but then God opened the floodgates of grace and boom, boom, boom these little guys have added all the noise and mayhem (and love) I could have imagined. What’s that saying…careful what you wish for? But I certainly wouldn’t have it any other way with their sweet smiles and hugs (unless you could also give me a little less screaming down the hallway and a little more picking up and putting away those darn Legos and Star Wars figures. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

* * *

At the beginning of the year I started participating in Cari’s Theme Thursdays and it really started me to explore photography a bit more. I also got a new “big girl” camera and it does great work because I am such an amateur stillย  trying to learn the techniques of better photography. This was one of the first shots I was so pleased to capture. (This photo was taken at a different timeย  from the spider web /water droplet photo I posted yesterday. I think I like it even more.) ๐Ÿ™‚ย  And as they say,ย  April showers…

* * *

…brings May flowers. Taking flower shots are one of my favorite things to do. I especially love big, bright and bold colors. I can’t help but smile when I see them. ๐Ÿ™‚

* * *

There were a lot of photos I loved from our Lake Tahoe trip, but something about this black and white shot grabbed me. I particularly liked how the sun broke through the shadowy cover of the trees and created a path of light.

* * *

This photo was for Theme Thursday: Knots for my knotted rosary. Brian and I received the statue of Our Lady for our wedding (oddly enough from a family friend who is not religious) but it was a perfect gift since Our Lady was instrumental in our meeting, dating and getting married. ๐Ÿ™‚

* * *

I snapped these bubble photos and I not only love the content but the memories behind it. It was the morning of my birthday and I was outside trying to get a perfect shot for Theme Thursday: Shadow. I did get a shot I loved (whichyou can see here), but I posted this one as my favorite instead because it is so playful and fun. It also caused the most laughs and cheers from everyone as it was being blown.ย  Brian and I had such fun playing with the kids out there and all it took was something as simple as soap and a wand and our time. I don’t remember the gifts I got that day but I remember this morning vividly. (Wait, I do remember my gift… the Macbook Air I am typing on now. Yeah, may just have been my best bday ever. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

* * *

In was 12 years ago in September that Bella arrived into the world a month early, on the day of our baby shower to be exact,ย  and weighing in at a little less than 4 pounds. How did those years fly by so fast? Now she is my sweetie girl with a special place in my heart, not only as my daughter but as my comrade in this house of males. ๐Ÿ˜‰

* * *

I love, love, love autumn and although we don’t have the fiery autumn colors that the East Coast does, amidst the green you’ll find pockets of amazing colors such as these that I found in the forest at Jack’s Peak in Monterey.

* * *

Technically there are things about this shot I wish I could fix – the harsh sun, random people in the background (I don’t have time to photoshop), JP looking away – but I LOVE the memories behind the shot. We met up with my parents and many of my siblings and spend a few days before Thanksgiving at Disneyland. It is an annual tradition and I look forward to it all year long. This year was especially sweet since January had such a rocky start.

* * *

Also taken at Disneyland, I loved the sweet country Christmas feel to start my favorite time of the year. ๐Ÿ™‚

* * *

For my bonus shot #13, I give you this photo from one of our family walks.

I simply adore this. Thinking about Brian sick in the hospital and now seeing him strong and healthy I can’t help but shed tears of gratitude as I type. This photo shows Brian at his essence, a loving husband and father that cares, protects, leads and guides the ones he loves AND he doesn’t complain (too much) that I keep taking shots of him and everything elseย  because he knows taking photos makes me happy. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, I hope you enjoyed the photos! Thanks to Dwija and Pam for hosting!

Theme Thursday: Shaming & {pretty, happy, funny, real} vol. 80: The “I’m ashamed to say…” Edition

It’s a photo mash-up as I link up with two of my favorite blogs/bloggers –ย  Cari for Theme Thursday: Shaming (I’m ashamed of the language that came out of my mouth when I read the theme for today) and Like Mother, Like Daughter for {pretty, happy, funny, real} .

{pretty}

Last night we had our first real rain of the season and we desperately needed it! When I woke up the next morning I am ashamed to say that the kids were late for school because instead of making their breakfast I went out on the deck in my pj’s and bare feet to watch the sun rise over the trees and snap some photos.

It looked like a scene from a tropical paradise, especially as the fog sat at the bottom of the hills.

So they were late getting to school…and I’m ashamed to say I’d do it all over again!

{happy}

I’m ashamed to say that for the last week the housework has suffered (Never mind that it’s not a shock. I mean more than usual!), the dishes have been left in the sink every night and everyone has run out of clean underwear because we have been using all our spare time to send Christmas care packages to our soldiers before the Post Office deadline. However, I am happy that my three little elves have gotten into the spirit ofย  Christmas and have been helping me out fill out the soldier’s Christmas stockings…

…even though I am ashamed to say that after 15 minutes of their “help” I sent them to their room to play with Legos because the chaos was driving me nuts. ๐Ÿ˜‰

{funny}

I was dumping out some old magazines and I’m ashamed to admit how my reading material compares to Brian’s. While he is reading about the Pope’s latest homily…

…I’m checking to see what Daryl is up to and what the Governor will do to Rick and the gang.

{real}

I’m ashamed to admit that I have been celebrating Christmas since Halloween. I am ashamed to admit that I love to watch every single movie on the Hallmark Channel’s countdown to Christmas movie list, especially the romantic ones. And the other night Brian sat down with me to watch one (doesn’t he just rock!) and the two main characters were falling in love as they baked Christmas cookies and made hot chocolate. Brian suggested that we make some hot chocolate so we paused the movie and made our treats. The only thing missing? The cookies. Then I remembered that I bought a tin of Christmas cookies for a friend who loved them and I hid them in the garage so no one would be tempted to eat them.

I’m ashamed to say that I sneaked out to the garage, took them from their hiding place and opened them up so Brian and I could enjoy. Then I hid the box so the kids wouldn’t see them and Brian and I could have a secret treat another night. heehee. Yeah, I’d totally do that again, too.

(As I am typing this, Bella came into the room and saw this photo of the cookies. She said, “When did you guys have those?” I stammered and said, “Have you finished your homework?” She said no so I sent her off. I escaped this time but my crime may be found out once they start sniffing around. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Have a blessed week! Please pray for us that we have a safe trip. I’ll post a pic from Disneyland. ๐Ÿ™‚

xoxo,

Theme Thursday: W & {pretty, happy, funny, real} vol. 79: True Wuv Edition

Well, I’ve been gone for awhile but I am back home and happy to report that it was a lovely trip and my sister Bridgette had a wonderful wedding. Although I am on a blogging break and haven’t taken many recent photos for this, I am itching to post something. So I went through my iphone and found a few photos that I could use to join Cari for Theme Thursday: W and Like Mother, Like Daughter for {pretty, happy, funny, real} . Since I’ve got Love…true wuv on my mind, I bring to you…

“Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam…
And wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva…”

True Wuv

The happy couple in honeymooning in my neck of the woods so here are some of the things they will see in Monterey, CA.

Okay, my honeymooning sister actually took this photo yesterday. (Hey, Bridge, I stole this photo off facebook but I thought you’d be cool with it since I am doing you laundry as I’m typing this. Yeah, okay, thanks.) ๐Ÿ˜‰
